 This seminar will provide an overview of the current European landscape in Open Science and Innovation within Earth Observation (EO), emphasizing developments in the downstream EO value chain—particularly scientific exploitation and EO-based applications. We will present the latest initiatives led by the European Space Agency (ESA), designed to accelerate scientific discoveries and support the progression up the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) scale, facilitating the transition from Earth and climate science to practical applications with relevance for citizens, policy and decision-making. Initiatives such as EarthCODE and APEx implement ESA’s recent EO Science Strategy with respect to Open Science and Digital Innovation, leveraging an ecosystem of advanced cloud-based platform technologies and services. The seminar will showcase some of these platforms, highlighting their key features and capabilities, and explore how such solutions can foster the development of innovative business models.
