[SEMINAR] Geospatial Information Services in Support of the United Nations Operations

15 May 2025, 16:30 – 17:15 CET

Politecnico di Milano – room B.5.3 and on-line at  webex-room

The United Nations field operations are complex, from small-scale political missions to the largest peacekeeping operations. They operate in often challenging and dangerous environments. UN Operations provide vital protection, security, and humanitarian services to the population of concern, including lifesaving services such as nutrition, health, education, and finding long-lasting peace solutions.

Geospatial information systems play an important role in structuring, consolidating, and visualizing a vast amount of data required by UN Operations. It provides timely and effective geospatial information products, including maps and other dynamic tools, to ensure that the field operations are equipped with relevant information to support mission’s mandate and support planning and decision-making processes.

The seminar will introduce the practical application of GIS and remote sensing to the United Nations field operations.

Speaker: Dr. Timur Obukhov, Officer-in-Charge of Geo-Analytics at the United Nations Headquarters.
