SUMMARY:Seminar: Advanced Visualizations with QGIS 3
DESCRIPTION:QGIS provides a wide range of capabilities for exploratory data analysis and data-driven maps. This workshop covers QGIS map design capabilities. The core content covers: \n• Setting up a project \n• Using dynamic visual attributes \n• Going beyond maps (diagrams) \n• Designing print maps & reports \n… and – if time allows – we’ll look into: \n• Extra #1: towards the third dimension \n• Extra #2: animations\, geometry generators\, and all the rest \nPlease bring your laptop with QGIS installed on it. \n  \nThe speaker: \nAnita Graser is a spatial data scientist\, open source GIS advocate\, and author. \nHer research focuses on the analysis of movement data. \nShe’s co-author of QGIS Map Design and other books about QGIS. \nFor further information\, check out her blog at https://anitagraser.com/about/

SUMMARY:Seminar: OpenStreetMap (OSM)
DESCRIPTION:The seminar is an introduction to the vast world of OpenStreetMap (OSM). It presents the data model of the OSM database and how to selectively download the data. Besides\, it gives information on how to become an OSM contributor and an overview of OSM mapping techniques. The seminar also gives some practical ways to get various insights about how the database evolved in time and the community\, to name a few. \nPlease bring your laptop and register before to OSM (https://www.openstreetmap.org). \nThe speaker: \nCandan Eylül Kilsedar is a research fellow at Politecnico di Milano\, specialized in geo big data web visualization. She has worked with OSM data in recent years\, regarding novel ways to visualize the data and populating the database for humanitarian purposes through organizing the students of PoliMi under a group called PoliMappers. She had been the President of PoliMappers and currently she is one of the two faculty advisors.

SUMMARY:Living Planet Symposium and related Passion in Action
DESCRIPTION:The European Space Agency (ESA) Living Planet Symposium will be held in Milano\, from 13th to 17th May 2019.\n\n\nThe Symposium focuses on how Earth Observation contributes to science and society and how disruptive technologies and actors are changing the traditional Earth Observation landscape. \n \nClearly\, an active participation to this event is of great educational impact for students in Engineering\, especially for those studying new technologies for the environment\, with a particular focus on Earth Observation data management and analysis.\nThe Living Planet Action is planned in strict cooperation between Politecnico di Milano and the Organizing Committee of Living Planet Symposium.\n\nParticipants to Living Planet Action will be involved in the Symposium for its whole duration. They will actively participate to the Symposium organization and management\, as Symposium Volunteers\, for two days and a half. In the remaining days of the Symposium they will have the opportunity to freely attend the scientific sessions. Both activities will be certified by Politecnico di Milano into a Diploma Supplement. \nMore information on LPS website\nhttps://lps19.esa.int/NikalWebsitePortal/living-planet-symposium-2019/lps19 \nand Passion in Action webpage (find LPS in it)\nhttps://www.polimi.it/en/programmes/innovative-teaching/

SUMMARY:3rd Workshop of Humanitarian Collaborative Mapping
DESCRIPTION:IMPORTANT: New date: 22th of March at 4.15pm\, room S1.5! \nIMPORTANT. Due to the general strike\, the event has been postponed: the new date and room will be communicated as soon as possible. \n  \nDear students\, \nThe activities of the course “Humanitarian Collaborative Mapping”\, organized with PoliMappers\, start again at the beginning of March! The next workshop will be held together with Resilient GAP\, a students’ association at Politecnico di Milano which is working on environmental issues. In particular\, during the workshop\, the problem of deforestation in the Amazon rainforest will be discussed\, with a remote connection with Geomatica UdeA\, a YouthMappers chapter in Colombia based at the University of Antioquia. Researchers working on this issue will tell us about the relevant main problems and challenges. \nLater we will map land use on OSM through iD editor. Be prepared\, Resilient GAP’s members might need your help! \nThe workshop will take place on 8th march\, from 4:15pm to 7:15pm in room S1.5
