DESCRIPTION:The United Nations has been using GIS software for the past two decades to enhance the operational capacity of its operations in the field missions and the UNHQ. Whether it is a Peacekeeping\, Special Political Mission or the Field Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs\, GIS plays an integral role in consuming and procession a vast amount of information and presenting it in an easy visual format that enhances the analysis and monitoring of the situation during the conflicts\, awareness\, planning and decision making processes.\nThe seminar will introduce the practical application of GIS and remote sensing for the United Nations field operations. \nThe speaker \nTimur Obukhov is in-charge of Geo-analytics in the United Nations Headquarter. He has 19 years of experience in the United Nation’s demining\, humanitarian and peacekeeping operations. Timur is currently a student of PhD Programme at the Sapienza University in Rome under the supervision of Prof. Brovelli.
